Originally established as a sole proprietorship in 1984, Ocean West Builders, a licensed general contractor, has been incorporated in the State of California since 1988. With more than 30 years of construction experience, Mike and his team have completed hundreds of tenant improvement projects in dozens of buildings throughout San Diego County. With a philosophy of quality and professionalism, Ocean West Builders has formed lasting relationships with many property owners, developers and managers throughout its history. The company continues to provide the personal service and attention to detail that sets it apart in the commercial construction industry.

Management Philosophy

With a long and successful track record in the tenant improvement industry, we believe that all projects should be well organized within the office before the start of construction to ensure a smooth and successful outcome. Before the start of any project, we meet on site with our selected subcontractors to carefully review the scope of work as it relates to each trade. As the general contractor, it is our responsibility to orchestrate the project to ensure cohesion among the different trades. This cohesive mentality avoids "tunnel vision" from individual subcontractors, which enables the team to work decisively toward a quality finished product.

We strongly believe in weekly on-site meetings with the tenant and their representatives as well as our key personnel involved with the project. Clear communication results in a smooth construction timetable with minimal problems. Ocean West Builders has built a reputation of minimal or no punch list items. This is achieved through the concepts described above.

Subcontractor Selection

Ocean West Builders has long and successful relationships with many subcontractors in the San Diego area, which represent numerous trades and professions. We only choose subcontractors with which we have extensive experience and whose work we can be proud of. Although some subcontractors may have a lower cost than others, our reputation has been built on the quality of our results. Therefore, we will only select tradesmen that can deliver the quality we expect at a price that is competitive.

Our on-site personnel maintain a good work rapport with the subcontractors and their staff members. This team mentality results in the finished product that we demand as the general contractor.
